About us
Background - Low Impact Woodland Services was formed in Mid Wales in 2010 to provide timber extraction and harvesting services to woodland owners where the maintenance of amenity value and biodiversity is important. The increased value of firewood and recent government incentives have focused attention on the management of small and neglected woodlands however often the costs of bringing in heavy equipment for small lots and the resultant site damage can make this an unattractive proposition.  Low Impact Woodland Services is able to provide practical solutions with the skills and use of low impact equipment designed to meet these concerns.

Ian Sheffner
is an experienced forest contractor with 25 years active involvement in the forest industry in Wales.  His experience covers the full range of harvesting systems from large scale harvesting and forwarding machines to horse extraction. He was formerly training manager for the Forest Contractors Association and holds competence certificates in all the main harvesting skills.






Robert Eastham is a woodland owner with considerable experience in operating alternative silviculture systems in Wales.  He has a particular interest in the economics of forestry operations and  holds a MSc in Forest Technology from the University of Wales (Bangor).  He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants
